Piracy is an odd thing to still be around. But a country like Somalia, which has a failed government, crippled Economy, a population in famine...it's not surprising that the people would resort to such measures.

Perhaps more international intervention in the country, and I mean peaceful, not war or threats to attack, would be the best cure to the issue. Threatening to let loose all a country's power on them is a tad ridiculous, and not remotely constructive. They need to be deterred from resorting to piracy, sure, but help them not need to do it.

I miss piracy! Wait, back up. miss the IDEA of piracy. I think, like all things that go away and come back in a certain space of time - not so soon that people remember the downside, and just soon enough that people have made colourful romaticised movies about it- piracy just sounds cool.

The truth is its shattering experience with very real and painful situations for the those involved. But if even one of them had a cutlass they get my vote!

Interesting post. I'm reading a novel atm and it's got pirates in it. They have their reasons for doing what they do (although mostly it is for the booty, yes :)) Just thought I'd mention that.

Speaking of piracy - iinet (an internet provider) in australia is getting sued for not stopping people their users from downloading copyright material. Pretty sure they'll win the case... but glad they're not going after my internet provider all the same! Although if the governments internet censorship plan happens the internet may be too slow to download anything at all. (Perhaps it's their secret plan to stop piracy.)
